The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs urged the police to be more vigilant during the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – iFrancja

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has called on prefects and public order forces to exercise “extraordinary vigilance”, particularly with regard to places of worship and religious events, in view of the upcoming celebrations of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The AFP agency reported Darmanin’s appeal on Tuesday evening. The Interior Minister called for increased attention to religious places and gatherings, processions and pilgrimages to Marian shrines. He recalled that the country still has a high level of terrorist threat. He also referred to the context of strong international tensions, especially in the Middle East.
The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a public holiday in France. Thousands of pilgrims visit the sanctuary in Lourdes on this day.
In March, the French government raised the terrorist threat level to the highest after the attack in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, which was claimed by the terrorist organization Islamic State. The large-scale mobilization of security forces accompanied the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris. (PAP)
