According to the WHO, the incidence of coronavirus infection in Germany has been hitting records in recent weeks.
The head of the German Ministry of Health, Jens Spahn, said that the absolute majority of Germans have to make a choice – to get immunity by being vaccinated, either having been ill or die. On Monday, November 22, reports The Local.
The head of the department said that the pandemic will affect almost all residents of Germany.
“By the end of this winter, no matter how cynical it may sound, almost everyone in Germany will be either vaccinated, or cured, or dead,” the minister said.
Spahn stressed that in Germany “a very, very difficult situation in many hospitals.”
“This is why we strongly recommend vaccination,” he added.
According to the World Health Organization, on November 18, Germany recorded 65 thousand new cases of the disease at once – the maximum since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of people infected in Germany has been intense since mid-October.
At the same time, the daily number of deaths from COVID-19 in Germany, although growing in recent weeks, is far from the values of the first waves of the epidemic. In total, 1,390 deaths from coronavirus infection were recorded in Germany over the past week. At the peak of the epidemic, in January 2021, over 6 thousand people died in the country from COVID-19 every week.
Earlier in Germany, three municipalities in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg introduced night curfew and a partial lockdown for unvaccinated citizens.
