Resellers seem to always be a blight in the video game industry, and a recent example of this is what happened to the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle. And for that matter, Mikhail Daus, director of publishing at Larian Studios, does not support this practice, citing particularly terrible examples.
In his post on X, he criticized one eBay seller. Alongside an image showing someone trying to sell the Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition for £2,900 (€3,400), Dawes said he “understands how the concept of the product works” but added he emphasized, that the point of releasing those collector’s editions is to “make someone happy.”
I hate scalpers (dealers). I understand how the concept of “product” works, but this compilation edition is not a product, it is designed to make someone happy, not rich. If you buy it to resell later, you are making someone sad.
And although the problem arose immediately after the publication of the Collector’s Edition, a year later it did not get worse. You can find hundreds of similar listings on eBay, including ones without a copy of the game. But what Daus noted is still relevant, and it remains to be seen whether anyone will agree to pay such an amount for it.
Many fans were disappointed in the comments, but Larian is far from alone on this matter. Currently, Sony Corporation in Japan is trying several new methods to combat over-buying, but until new technologies can solve this problem for us, there will still be a good old insult, which, although not advantage there, still a little relaxed.
