Dr. Amr Zakaria, head of the Institute of Marine Sciences, said that the tsunami is a movement of a water level with a length ranging from 2000 to 2500 and up to 3 thousand meters, explaining that this column of water moves as a result of the vibration of the ground under the water, and it moves and runs at a sweeping speed to the shore.

Dr. Amr Zakaria explained, in a telephone interview with the “Masa DMC” program, with the journalist Ramy Radwan, on the DMC channel, that the city of Alexandria was subjected to sinking due to a tsunami twice, and the difference between each time and the second is about a thousand years, explaining that the reason for the tsunami warnings in Alexandria, that the earthquake zone in Turkey and Syria is a focal point for a group of movements or related differences between them, and this enhances the possibility of a tsunami.

He continued: “The places from which a tsunami can occur in Alexandria are the movements that come out of Crete or Cyprus, but we, with the Risk Reduction Center, do awareness every year, and in a strategy to confront the tsunami, and we do continuous awareness.”
