The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, called on EU member states to supply Ukraine with military aircraft, as well as longer-range missiles. The statement was made at a special session of the European Parliament, at which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky speaks.
“Now the EU countries must make a quick decision to provide your country with long-range aircraft and systems in order to protect the freedom that too many take for granted,” said Ms. Metsola (the speech is broadcast on site the European Parliament).
Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Brussels from Paris on the same plane as French President Emmanuel Macron. The President of Ukraine was on a visit to Paris for talks with Mr Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
At the end of January, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing his allies, said that in addition to battle tanks, Ukraine is counting on the supply of long-range aircraft and missiles. However, the head of European diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine is impossible due to disagreements within the EU. German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck explained the refusal of Germany to send planes to Ukraine by unwillingness to become a party to the conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron said that in the matter of supplies, “in principle, nothing is ruled out.”
