The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that so far there is no evidence of Chinese arms supplies to Russia. She said this during a joint speech with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Meseberg near Berlin.
“We don’t have proof of this yet, but you should track this issue every day,” said Ms von der Leyen (quoted from Wallstreet:online). The journalist asked if the US had received concrete evidence that China was considering selling weapons to Russia.
Speaking about sanctions against China in the event of such supplies, the EC President noted that this is “a hypothetical question that can only be answered if it becomes a reality and a fact.”
“We all agree that there should be no arms deliveries,” said Mr. Scholz in turn. “The Chinese government has said it will not supply it. This is what we are calling for and following this,” the German Chancellor said.
The United States has previously stated that China is supplying Russia with non-lethal military assistance and is considering sending weapons, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called information about Chinese arms supplies to Russia speculation.
