Rogozin and his threats to the West
Focus already wrote that Rogozin had already threatened partner countries in the ISS that without the participation of the Russian Federation in the operation of the station, she won’t be able to function properly and even descend from orbit. Moreover, according to the Russian official, if this happens, then Western countries need to be more afraid, because the ISS could fall on their territory.
And in early March of this year, Roscosmos announced that more will not participate in joint research on the ISS . The main reason is the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation due to the invasion of Ukraine.
Explanatory note from NASA
After Rogozin sent his letters to the West, NASA posted on its website explanatory message , which described who is responsible for what on the ISS. In it, the Americans admitted that the Russian contribution to the work of the ISS is really significant, and without the participation of Russia , the station will not be able to work normally. Although NASA admitted that they are doing some work to respond to possible unforeseen situations that could be provoked by the Russian Federation.
USA and Russia – friends on the ISS?
Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed by Western countries against the Russian Federation, the work of the joint US-Russian crew on the ISS continues.
First, at the end of March, a capsule from the Russian Soyuz spacecraft landed on Earth, which brought to the planet a crew of two Russian astronauts and American Mark Vande Hay.
Second, now Expedition 67 began its work on the ISS , which includes three Americans, one German and three Russian astronauts. And the head of the NASA manned program, Katie Lueders, said that cooperation with the Russian Federation on the station continues and there are no signs that it will stop.
What did the leaders of the space agencies of Western countries say to Rogozin’s letter?
Given that the head of Roskomos gave NASA, ESA and CSA until the end of March to receive a response to their letters, the heads of Western space agencies complied with his request. Roskosmos posted the response letters in its Telegram channel.
NASA administrator Bill Nelson said in a letter to Rogozin that the United States supports further cooperation with Russia on the ISS. The letter said that new and existing US export controls continue to allow continued interaction between countries to ensure the safe operation of the ISS. After all, this is the main priority of the United States .

The head of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher, was more concise in his response to Rogozin.
“I will submit the issue of lifting sanctions from the enterprises of the aerospace industry of the Russian Federation for consideration by the ESA member states,” Ashbacher wrote.

How did Dmitry Rogozin react to the letters from NASA, ESA and KSA?
In the official Telegram channel of Roskomos published Rogozin’s reaction to the response of Western partners in the ISS.
“I received a response to my appeal regarding the lifting of sanctions. The Americans and Canadians wrote their letters almost like a carbon copy. And the head of the ESA suggests waiting until all EU countries read my letter. By this time, either the donkey will die, or the ISS will die of its own death,” – Rogozin is quoted by the Telegram channel of Roskomos.

According to Rogozin, the position of Western countries in relation to the Russian Federation is clear to him – sanctions will not be lifted. But these sanctions will not work if it affects the operation of the ISS.
“I consider this state of affairs unacceptable. The purpose of the sanctions is to kill the Russian economy , plunge our people into despair and hunger, bring our country to its knees. They will not be able to do this. Normal relations with Western partners under the ISS program are possible only when they are removed all sanctions,” Rogozin was quoted as saying by the Telegram channel of Roskomos.
Dmitry Rogozin also said that in the near future Roskomos will submit its proposals to the Russian leadership on the timing of the completion of cooperation within the framework of the ISS.
We remind you that the European Space Agency, due to the Russian invasion of our country, has already canceled cooperation with Roscosmos within the framework of the ExoMars program.
It is also worth recalling that after the Japanese Ministry of Defense decided to change the spelling in Japanese of the name of our capital to Kiev, instead of Kyiv, Dmitry Rogozin introduced his own “sanctions” against the Land of the Rising Sun.
