The director of GDBOP, Yavor Serafimov, dropped a big bomb about serious threats against persons in power in our country. He revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel had received serious threats to her life.
“Threats against many popular figures have become more frequent, including Ms. Maria Gabriel and a large number of other public figures. This is from the last week or two. We believe they are coming from one person and we have a guess who it is – ‘The Red Pirate’. He is a Bulgarian citizen who lives a bit nomadically, but gets access to the addresses of such persons, as well as sends bomb threats to schools,” revealed the head of the GDBOP.
Serafimov believes that this is a mentally unstable person.
“Regarding Petar Petrov – Euroto, GDBOP received a signal from KPCONPI. In return for a modest fee, Euroto was promised to help him get his property back. Multi-layered criminal activity was established there,” said Serafimov.
He stated that he has information that the Euro is located in a country neighboring Bulgaria.
“Whether a person is an associate of the Ministry of the Interior or not – we do not have the right by law to disclose such data. We requested information about whether Martin Bojanov – the Notary was an associate of the GDBOP from the Prosecutor’s Office in the pre-trial proceedings,” he pointed out in response to the question whether the murdered Bojanov had connections and a kind of patronage in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the period February-March 2022, five reports were filed against Bojanov in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “At that time, the interior minister was Boyko Rashkov. The signals are directed to the GDBOP for verification. One of the reports is from the Anti-Corruption Fund, three reports from Adriana Simeonova – Bojanov’s ex-wife, and one report from Evgeni Simeonov, who is her current husband. In general, the reports are about influence peddling, property crimes, coercion and threats on the part of Bojanov and the group he probably led. Inspections have been carried out and the materials have been submitted to the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office”, Serafimov explained.
According to him, during the inspection, coercion was established against judge Vladislava Tsarigradska, who was summoned for questioning and pre-trial proceedings were initiated. “The main criminal act of Bojanov, which we established – are the so-called property fraud. The first signals about this were submitted to the GDBOP in 2022. This does not mean that similar information was not received before in other structures of the Ministry of the Interior”, he emphasized. And he added that the GDBOP did not investigate “magistrates connected to the so-called SS club, because it has no such right.” “Only KPCONPI, which investigates corruption, has such a right. We filed a report with the prosecutor’s office,” said the head of the GDBOP.
Chief Commissioner Yavor Serafimov emphasized that during the GDBOP inspection, “quite a few names that are mentioned in connection with Bojanov” were revealed. “We are talking about more than three prosecutors and judges who are mentioned in the reports of the whistleblowers. Martin Bojanov’s good acquaintance with these persons helped the outcome of the cases. The prosecutor’s office did not assign us any additional actions after we gave them the summary report of our inspection”, he is categorical.
In the case of the extorted Greek businessmen who complained of pressure from “Bojanov’s group”, “the name of Bojanov himself is not mentioned”. “The signal was sent to them in 2022. What we assume is that at a slightly later stage, after the inspection was completed and handed over, Martin Bojanov’s group folded. Neither the statements of the Greek businessmen, nor the testimony of their lawyer, mention the name of the Notary, his lawyer or the group associated with him. The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office returned the materials with instructions for a partial additional check. Again we called the witnesses for questioning – and again there was no claim of participation of the “group” in any way. Therefore, we think that Bojanov and his group appeared at a slightly later stage”, Serafimov emphasized.
He denied that the GDBOP had leaked information in connection with investigations against Bojanov, such as the information given by ex-interior minister Boyko Rashkov. “It is possible that he had contacts in GDBOP, but we have no data that information was leaked.”
Serafimov stated that the wife of the Notary Gergana was appointed to the GDBOP with a competition for the position of “investigating police officer”. “A little later, a request for access to classified information was made – it was denied. Discrepancies were found in what she declared as movable and immovable property. After she was denied access – by order of the then head of the GDBOP Kalin Stoyanov, which was confirmed at two other instances, her employment relationship with the Ministry of the Interior was terminated. However, she appealed and the court reinstated her, but she is currently on maternity leave. After that, there are options to take action on,” he emphasized.
