A significant number of immigrants continue to arrive in Lithuania, so last week Frontex decided to increase its border guards to help Lithuania guard the European Union’s external border.
Every day, immigrants from Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries continue to cross the Lithuanian-Belarusian border illegally.
For example, on Saturday, border guards caught 41 immigrants. As a result, more than 2,000 people have crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border illegally this year.
Therefore, Frontex head Fabri Ledger plans to visit the border near Druskininkai, where agency staff have been sent to help Lithuanian border guards patrol the area.
