Relatives and friends gathered today at the Holy Trinity Church to see off 30-year-old Elena Gencheva, whose tragic death shook Bulgaria and the Netherlands, www.rusemedia.com reported.
To offer his condolences, Europol Director Catherine de Ball arrived in Ruse in person with a delegation of European police officers.
“I am here in my capacity as director of Europol and head of Elena. I have come to offer my sincerest condolences to Elena’s mother and father, because everyone at Europol is very saddened by the tragic circumstances in which she lost her life.
We are shocked and that is why I am here with the delegation – to tell our parents that she was our great partner and colleague, a friend of many people at Europol, and we really appreciated her.
The tragedy that happened should never have happened. Elena was a wonderful friend and colleague for us, we will never forget her. She was one of us and will always remain one of us, “said Catherine de Ball.
Elena Gencheva works at Europol after graduating in law in the Netherlands. In Ruse she was a graduate of the English High School. She was killed at her home in The Hague by her 34-year-old friend Hristo Katsarov, who later committed suicide in Sofia before police arrested him..
