The head of Ericsson spoke in favor of lifting the ban on the use of 5G equipment Huawei in Sweden

By reports network sources, the CEO of the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson Börje Ekholm demanded from the Minister of Commerce Anna Hallberg to lift the ban on the use of equipment of Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE for building fifth generation (5G) communication networks in the country.

According to reports, Ekholm has repeatedly asked the minister to cancel the order of the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Authority (PTS), according to which local telecom operators must exclude Chinese equipment from the existing 5G infrastructure by January 2025.

An Ericsson spokesman confirmed that Ekholm is in contact with the minister. In turn, Anna Hallberg told reporters that she had not contacted PTS and would never interfere as a minister in the affairs of other departments. She also noted that she had never personally met with the head of the company. This information came shortly after Ericsson’s vice chairman of the board of directors Jacob Wallenberg said that the ban on Huawei was a bad decision.

It should be noted that about 10% of the Swedish company’s sales come from China. In addition, Ericsson is Huawei’s largest competitor in the telecommunications equipment market. Earlier, the Chinese authorities said that Swedish companies may face the negative consequences of the ban on the use of 5G equipment produced by companies from the Middle Kingdom. Probably, the possible retaliatory sanctions from China became the reason why the head of Ericsson is trying to achieve a change in the situation.
