“She tried to do her job and that killed her,” said fellow physician Philip Breen, Lorna’s father, who had no history of mental illness but had been infected – and apparently cured – from Covid-19.
Philip said that the last time he spoke to his daughter, she told him that it was unbearable for her to see so many coronavirus-infected patients die, some of them even before they could be removed from the ambulance.
Lorna committed suicide in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she had gone to spend a few days with her family, two days after John Mondello, a 23-year-old emergency paramedic working in New York, took his own life for a similar motif.
