Since January, DANS, together with partner services, has been working on the case of the three Bulgarians detained in Great Britain for alleged espionage in favor of the Russian Federation, DANS chairman Plamen Tonchev told BTA.
He added that it was “worked very actively, as the agency was notified of the detention of the Bulgarians”.
Tonchev added that pre-trial proceedings had been initiated in the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, as well as that the prime minister has been informed about the case.
Orlin Rusev, 45, Biser Jambazov (41) and Katrin Ivanova (31) were detained back in February, but the case became public knowledge only this week after the BBC spread information about it.
Earlier, our ambassador in London, Marin Raykov, announced that the Bulgarian embassy in the United Kingdom was not informed about the detention of the three Bulgarians.
He explained that according to British practice, if they themselves, upon arrest, do not wish the Bulgarian diplomatic services to be informed, then this does not happen.
The case in Great Britain once again raised the question of whether our partners in NATO and the EU trust us.
After the murder of Alexey Petrov, the PP-DB once again announced the reformation of the special services.
Plamen Tonchev was appointed head of DANS in 2021 by President Rumen Radev at the suggestion of the then Acting Prime Minister Stefan Yanev.
Then the heads of the special services were suddenly changed.
