The Head of BPS is questioned by the DPR about ambiguous data

Jakarta

Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suhariyanto was warned by Commission XI DPR RI about the accuracy of the data. Deputy Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI from the PDIP faction Eriko Sotarduga emphasized that data should be BPS the government can rely on in determining policies.

The reason is, he assessed that in a number of government programs, the problem is in the messy data.

“A country of this size is always having problems, and after I checked the data was indeed on. I want one guarantee from the Head of BPS, the census was said to be completed in September. Can that data be used as a basis for future government?” said Eriko in a hearing (RDP) with BPS at the DPR RI building, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/9/2020).

Answering that, Suhariyanto or who is usually called Kecuk said that he should be able to. However, Eriko criticized the answer again.

“I do not expect that the answer should be possible, but it certainly can. Why? How can friends here give approval for the budget if you cannot provide a guarantee. This is not small. And this must be accounted for to the people,” said Eriko.

In this RDP, Kecuk did convey the BPS work plan (RKA) for 2021 amounting to Rp. 5.2 trillion for details on the statistical information service and provision program (PPIS), and management support programs.

Therefore, Eriko asked BPS to take a stand that could ensure that the data processed was reliable.

“Commission XI hopes that this can become a basis for what the government can do in the future. We have no objection to approving the budget. But BPS must be a mainstay in the future the government determines future policies. That’s what I want. So next, please believe and can accounted for, “he said.

Hearing the warning, Kecuk emphasized that BPS will always improve the data.

“I promise BPS will continue to improve its data,” replied Kecuk.
