The players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” in the away game on July 29 tied with “Rostov” with a score of 1:1. As part of the guests, Mateo Cassierra scored a goal and put the team ahead (43 minutes), but the hosts forward Nikolay Komlichenko equalized with a 11-meter kick (90+4).
After the final whistle, the head coach of the St. Petersburg football club, Sergei Semak, was sent off for contacting the chief referee of the meeting, Yevgeny Kukulyak, with a question about the game moment.
“Yes, I got a red card. He approached the referee and asked if he had seen the moment with the spikes in the leg of Claudinho. He showed a red card, said that I had no right to approach him. Well, I will know, ”Semak said after the meeting.
For Komlichenko, the St. Petersburg club is a favorite rival in the RPL: the forward scored in five out of seven matches against St. Petersburg in the Russian championship.
For the Colombian Cassiera, this goal scored was the third in the second match of the championship, despite the fact that for the entire last season of the Russian championship, the striker scored only two goals.
In this match, Zenit landed only 6 shots per game – this is their worst result in the RPL since December 2021, when there were also 6 shots against Dynamo. Also, the St. Petersburg club played its worst match since May 2019 on touches in someone else’s penalty area (10).
In this meeting, defender Strahinja Erakovic, who was bought from Red Star, made his debut in Zenit. The 22-year-old Serbian came on as a substitute in the 17th minute instead of Dmitry Chistyakov, who was injured.
“Zenith” and “Rostov” scored 4 points after two rounds: the St. Petersburg club surpasses the Rostovites in goal difference.

CSKA won a guest victory over Grozny Akhmat. The match in Grozny ended with the score 2:3. In this meeting, all the goals were scored from the penalty spot. Fedor Chalov scored a hat-trick for the guests (13th minute, 45+1 and 79), Mohamed Konate (27, 45+11) for the hosts.

At the end of the first half, referee Vladislav Bezborodov awarded a penalty to CSKA for Gayich’s foul and showed him a yellow card. Igor Akinfeev parried the blow, but after that the referee watched a repeat of the Serb’s violation and changed the decision, removing Gayich and allowing Akhmat to beat the 11-meter kick, which was converted by Mohamed Konate.
CSKA Communications Director Kirill Breido declared “Match TV” that the club will apply to the expert referee commission (ESK RFU) in connection with the red card shown to Gayich. Also Braido named this situation is a disaster. “I can’t remember a greater lawlessness than the one that the Bezborodov brigade is doing now, rewriting the football rules and the VAR protocol on the go. Catastrophe. Murder. Lawlessness,” Breido wrote.
In the Communications Service of the RFU declaredthat during the match there were problems with communication between the referees in the field and the VAR center in Moscow, but all high-profile episodes “will be carefully studied and evaluated by the refereeing department and the expert refereeing commission.”
Bezborodov repeated the record of the championships of Russia, appointing five penalties. Valentin Ivanov in 1999 delivered the same number of penalty kicks in the match “Rotor” – “Chernomorets”, but only three were realized.
