It has been simmering in the rumor mill for a long time, but in the new year it will become reality: A real crossover between the two series produced by CBS in Hawaii “Hawaii Five-0” und “Magnum PI”. In the USA it will be broadcast on January 3, 2020, the shooting should be finished at this time.
How TVLine reports, the investigators run away Five-0 and “Magnum” during a mission and then continue working together. “It’s a high-stakes story that really feels like a two-hour film,” says producer Peter Lenkov, who is behind both series.
The story begins at 8 p.m. at “Hawaii Five-0”. A hotel room observed by Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Juliett Higgins (Perdita Weeks) is stormed by McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Co.
However, not everything goes according to plan when the special unit is deployed: Magnum and Higgins recognize that the law enforcement officers need support and intervene. As a result, both teams continue to investigate together, with TC (Stephen Hill) and Rick (Zachary Knighton) following the excursion Five-0 connect.
In return comes the Young investigators from Five-0 from 9 p.m. to “Magnum” to close the case: Junior (Beulah Koale), Tani (Meaghan Rath) and Quinn (newcomer Katrina Law).
Since “Hawaii Five-0” and “Magnum PI” are both created in Hawaii, for CBS and by CBS TV Studios, it was decided early on that both would share a series universe – as the US broadcaster CBS likes to crossover its crime novels to network and thus to capture viewers. The two series share secondary characters like Kamekona (Taylor Wily), Duke (Dennis Chun), Noelani (Kimee Balmilero), Flippa (Shawn Mokuahi Garnett) and private investigator Harry Brown (William Forsythe).
In Germany, viewers will look straight into the tube at this crossover: “Hawaii Five-0” runs on Sat.1 or the ProSiebenSat.1 group, while “Magnum PI” is broadcast on VOX and the RTL group – background is that NBC Universal made the original “Magnum” with Tom Selleck, is co-producing the new series and is responsible for international distribution.
