A conference on “the Haute-Loire and the Commune of Paris” hosted by Raymond Vacheron, political figure and union activist, is organized at the Center Pierre Cardinal in Le Puy from 6 p.m. this Thursday, May 25.
The insurrection of the people during the Paris Commune from March 18 to May 28, 1871 ended with its crushing in blood and twenty thousand killed by the army. Then 41,300 suspects were sought by the police and 10,644 convicted by military courts. The majority of them were born far from the capital where they had emigrated to work.
Some came from Haute-Loire. One hundred and twenty three natives of the department are wanted and thirty eight condemned: two to death in absentia, including Jules Vallès and eleven deported to New Caledonia.
It is this story that Raymond Vacheron will recount to us following the publication of this story in the review of Social History Haute-Loire.
