One recent study highlighted the harmful effects of smoking, especially on oral health, such as receding gums, staining of the teeth, and gum disease.
The study showed that smoking affects how the gum tissue attaches to the bone and weakens the function of the gum tissue cells, which leads to a receding of the gums, exposing the roots of the teeth and increasing the sensitivity of the teeth.
It also pointed out that smokers suffer from slower tissue repair and reduced blood flow, which makes them more susceptible to mouth infections and gum disease.
