Five won tournaments on the ITF circuit, second place in the world among female tennis players under the age of 18, but mainly two participations in the world’s most famous events, the Australian Open and Roland Garros. It was a slowly ending tennis year for the younger of the Fruhvirt sisters, Brenda, the 136th player in the world.
But how is it really with the tennis hard work and talent of the sister duo? “I know it was said that my sister and I train for eight hours a day. But it was a bit bloated. Our peers also played a lot, and it seemed to me that a lot more than us, but because we were doing well, everyone said: ‘yeah, they play eight hours a day’, but it was never like that, we played like that for four or five hours, ” said the tennis player, for example.
The fact that, however, the success of the Fruhvirt sisters is due to enormous efforts is shown by her other words. “It wasn’t like our parents stood over us and forced us to play for eight hours a day. But it’s true that without hard work no one gets to the top, it really isn’t possible. The parents are very hardworking, but they didn’t let us go to the court to do whatever we wanted. We still have to work hard and pursue our goals.”
And how key a role do parents play in the careers of both sisters? “We have a close relationship, I go to tournaments with my mother, my sister with my father. It started that way when we were little, and it’s still going on. Sometimes we change it to give it some momentum. But we never go to tournaments alone or only with the coach.”
However, not everything is always smooth sailing. “Mom and I are already used to each other, but there are situations when we are angry with each other, sometimes it doesn’t work at all, sometimes there is a submarine. But it will continue to be like this in the future,” concludes the Czech talent.
