After arriving at the airport, handball commentator Daniel Høglund (35) was clearly told not to board the plane. Now a new operation awaits.
–
– It has gone better to put it that way, says Daniel Høglund to VG.
In the morning hours on Wednesday, the Viaplay profile posted a picture of a very swollen right hand.
He tells VG that he carried out an operation on Friday that had been planned for a long time. Then he just had to remove a fluid accumulation.
– Then I would think that there has been an infection in the hand. It is extremely swollen and hot. I felt a little better yesterday, so I thought “it’s probably going down”. It was only when I came to Gardermoen and met the others that they were like: “That does not look good”.
Høglund sent a picture to the operating room doctor and received an impressive enough answer at half past five in the morning. Then the message was clear:
– Do not go on the plane. You have to turn around, says Høglund.
He was scheduled to comment on Norway’s opening match against Kazakhstan on Friday. Now there is a high probability that it will go without Høglund – at least with him present.
– I think so, I can not understand anything else. I’m prepared for it to smoke, but of course I hope I make it to the opening match. I know more during the day.
Later Wednesday morning, Høglund states in an SMS that there will be a new operation with a subsequent course of antibiotics and hospitalization for several days. Thus, Sunday’s match against Iran will probably also end.
– How was it to get the message that you had to turn around?
– Of course it was awkward, but it was so disgusting to get on a plane, so I’m really just happy that someone made a decision.
– If I had been 20 years old, I would probably have been desperate and sorry, but it is a long championship so I will probably get down as soon as possible.
His employer may need to find an alternative plan for the championship.
– It is too early to say how we will solve this. Must spend the day looking at Daniel’s form and making a plan, writes Kristian Oma, who is sports manager at NENT Norway, in an SMS to VG.
