“The Hand of God” should be seen in cinemas

An unforgettable sex scene, a bottomless tragedy and the football god Maradona. Paolo Sorrentino is back with an epic blockbuster movie. It may well win an Oscar.

The lively extended family in Naples on a Sunday trip. “The Hand of God” is Italy’s Oscar nominee this year.

Screenwriter and director Paolo Sorrentino won the Oscar for best foreign language film with the masterpiece “The Great Beauty” (2013). This year’s film has the same strong film language and is Sorrentino’s most personal film to date.

The plot is set in his hometown of Naples in the summer of 1984, when the city was boiling with expectations. Rumors swirled that the world’s best football player, Diego Maradona, might be signed by the city’s football club.
