Monday night surprised (unless you got all the rumors in advance) Microsoft with a sneak peek of the free multiplayer part of Halo Infinite. The mode is free now and will continue to be free.
You can download the multiplayer section on Xbox Series X / S, on Windows and via Steam, and you do not need an Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Gold to access it.
What is the main food for many – the campaign part – still does not come before the release date of December 8, and then well and good without the opportunity to play co-op. It will be released later.
Technically, the multiplayer part is still in a beta test phase, but Monday’s launch is considered the starting shot for the game’s first season, which lasts until May 2022. All progression that is worked up in the beta test will be included in the launched version, so the “beta” aspect here feels pretty artificial.
Halo Infinite was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2020, but was postponed a few months before because the game needed more time in the oven. It is not inconceivable that it the laughable reception the game received during a press event the same year had a finger in the pie, but ultimately The developers of 343i probably wanted to have the opportunity to deliver as good a game as possible.
