Jakarta –
Food and beverage products that have been certified as halal remain halal and are not haram for consumption. In terms of substances or products, changes from halal to haram occur if there is use of haram materials or there is contamination from facilities or the environment which causes the entry of haram materials into the product.
This was conveyed by the Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Food, Drugs and Cosmetics, the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI), Muti Arintawati, in response to reports in the media citing NU’s fatwa regarding support for the Palestinian struggle, which states that buying products from producers who clearly support aggression It is haram for Israel to go to Palestine. He denied that there was an MUI fatwa stating this.
“As far as I understand, the MUI fatwa does not ban the product but bans actions that support Israel,” he said in a written statement, Saturday (11/11/2023).
The Secretary of the MUI Fatwa Commission, Miftahul Huda, said a similar thing. He stated that what the MUI prohibited was not the product or substance.
“The product remains halal as long as it meets the halal criteria. However, what is haram is the activity, the deed,” he said.
Miftahul said that the MUI fatwa only states that those who support acts of aggression, both directly and indirectly, are prohibited.
“So, what is prohibited is the act of support and not the goods produced. So, don’t misunderstand it,” he said.
Previously, as the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) also called on the Indonesian people to better donate humanitarian aid and carry out international diplomacy at the UN rather than carry out a boycott of Israeli-allied products which would actually be detrimental to the Indonesian people themselves. NU will try to support the government to gather international support at the UN so that Israel’s attacks on the Palestinian community can be stopped immediately.
“Providing humanitarian aid donations to Palestine is the most important thing for us to do, including international diplomacy at the UN,” said PBNU Chairman KH Ahmad Fahrur Rozi some time ago.
According to Gus Fahrur, all Indonesian people can support stopping Israel’s attacks on Palestine by doing what they can, at least with prayer.
“Instead of doing things that are actually detrimental to society, such as boycotts,” he explained.
“Hopefully our prayers will be answered by Allah. PBNU has specifically ordered its citizens to pray qunut nazilah,” he continued.
He hopes that no party will take advantage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to pit people against each other.
“Yes, don’t let there be riots in our beloved country. Do your best to support Palestinian independence. No one should fish in murky waters, take advantage of the atmosphere to cause trouble, let alone terrorism,” he said.
“We support Palestinian independence in a better way,” he added.
The Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP) also appealed to all parties in the country to respond to the Israeli-Palestinian war rationally and wisely and not to be provoked by various provocative, hoax and misleading information conveyed by certain parties who are taking advantage of this war for political interests. certain issues that have the potential to cause problems domestically.
“PP Muhammadiyah urges the United Nations Security Council to immediately take political and diplomatic steps involving related parties, especially Israel-Palestine to stop the war, carry out a ceasefire and carry out peace negotiations,” said PP Muhammadiyah’s statement in the release was signed by the General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, and the General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu’ti, recently.
PP Muhammadiyah also called on Muslims to offer supplications and unseen prayers for the Muslims who were victims of the war and to ask God for the war to end soon and for the people of the world to live in peace and prosperity.
Regarding the call to boycott the products of Israel’s allied countries in response to this war, Abdul Mu.ti said he understood and respected the call.
“But, for Muslim consumers, they feel there is no problem as long as the product they consume is halal,” he concluded.
