Three months after the fall of the previous council, The Hague has a new municipal council. D66, GroenLinks, Party for the Animals, PvdA, CDA and DENK form the coalition. Heart for The Hague by Richard de Mos ends up in the opposition.

Explorer Arie Slob will make an announcement to the Hague city council on Wednesday and the agreement will be presented next week. A source around the negotiations confirmed this after reporting Broadcasting West.

The parties began negotiations at the end of August. Slob initially advised forming a coalition with Hart voor Den Haag, VVD, Party for the Animals, DENK, SP and ChristenUnie/SGP. But the parties could not reach an agreement. According to Slob, the current coalition is the “ultimately last remaining majority variant.”

Together the six parties have 24 of the 45 seats in the Hague council, a narrow majority. The Hague now has its fourth council in five years.

D66, GroenLinks, PvdA and CDA were also in the previous coalition. It fell when the VVD pulled the plug. The VVD is now in opposition and is being replaced by the Party for the Animals and DENK.

In addition to the VVD, Hart voor Den Haag is also in the opposition. The party of former councilors De Mos and Rachid Guernaoui was the reason why the previous coalition in The Hague fell in June. She could not agree on how to deal with the party after De Mos and Guernaoui were acquitted of corruption. D66, CDA and VVD were prepared to talk about this with De Mos, but GroenLinks and PvdA absolutely did not like that.
