The Hague dunes scene of misconduct: police intervene | Inland

There were also fires and other vandalism last week. The police have announced that they will keep a close eye on the dune area in the near future.

After complaints from local residents on the edge of the nature reserve near the Hague districts of Segbroek and Scheveningen, a large police action was set up late on Friday evening. Local residents had complained in the past week about fires, furniture destruction and waste left behind.

Area combed out

The area was carefully scoured in joint action with enforcement, foresters and the police in Scheveningen. Several people were stopped. The helicopter provided aerial support in the confusing area.

“The drink was quite man,” the police said on social media. Campfires were found in various places. This is prohibited in the protected nature reserve anyway. In addition, groups did not follow the rules to be close to each other with several people.

A spokesman for the police said that he would not be able to comment on the action in the dunes in The Hague before Monday. Also, the exact number of arrests and vandalism could not be determined at this time.

Car fires

Since last week it has also been a hit in Leidschendam-Voorburg, a suburb of The Hague. There, various car owners were duped by fires. Last night a van was set on fire on the Veurse Achterweg in Leidschendam. This brings the total number of car fires in the relevant municipality to nine in just over a week. It was the second fire on the Veurse Achterweg in three days.

In De Telegraaf, mayor Klaas Tigelaar of the Hague peripheral municipality called the disturbances “completely inadmissible”. It would be a group of youth who cannot agree with the emergency measures around corona. Neighborhood residents said that it has been unsettled in their village for a long time. Cameras, the mayor said, should put an end to this in the near future.

A camera has also been hung at the Hague estate Clingendael between The Hague and Wassenaar. Here the special entrance gate of the Japanese garden, which was closed due to the corona crisis, was destroyed. Many cigarette butts were also found on the path of the estate.
