The Hague Council’s Request for Quick Clarification of Richard De Mos’ Appeal Rejected by Public Prosecution Service

The Public Prosecution Service does not agree with the request of the city council of The Hague to quickly clarify the appeal in the case of Richard de Mos. The chief public prosecutor of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office writes this in a letter to the city council.

The Public Prosecution Service says it needs more time to determine whether the preliminary appeal against the former alderman and the co-defendants will be continued, writes Broadcasting West.

Richard De Mos was acquitted of corruption by a court last April. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the party chairman of Hart voor Den Haag had, among other things, helped friendly entrepreneurs in exchange for donations to the party. But De Mos and his co-defendants have always said they have done nothing wrong. The judge fully agreed with this in April.

However, on May 4, the Public Prosecution Service lodged a provisional appeal. In this way, the judiciary can secure the statutory period for lodging an appeal.

A majority of the city council believes that the uncertainty surrounding the criminal case has held the city and the city council in its grip for too long and at the end of May supported a motion by the VVD that called on the Public Prosecution Service to speed up the decision.

The council asked for a maximum period of one month for the continuation or withdrawal of the appeal. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the case is too complex to decide within a month.

Richard de Mos is not happy with the reaction. “They have been working on the ‘case’ De Mos for 4.5 years, of which 1 year secretly, but they need even more time. It has long been a political process, so we are used to something,” he writes on Twitter .
