The hacker returned the stolen cryptocurrency for more than half a billion dollars

He refused an offer of immunity from prosecution

The hacker, who stole a cryptocurrency worth a little over $ 600 million, has already returned most of the stolen assets, confirmed the crypto company Poly Network, quoted by technews.bg.

Ether tokens worth $ 268 million have already been recovered. In the last 24 hours, the hacker has returned to the company more “coins” worth 342 million dollars, related to three cryptocurrencies, the BBC reported.

The individual also posted several pages of notes revealing why he and his “colleagues” hacked the company and the offers Poly Network made to them.

In a move that alarmed cybersecurity experts, the hacker claimed that his company had offered to pay him $ 500,000 if he returned the stolen assets and promised him immunity from prosecution. However, he says he has not accepted the offer.

The hacker still holds $ 33.4 million in stolen Tether “coins,” the company said in a statement. The tokens were frozen by Tether themselves, said Tom Robinson, co-founder of Elliptic, a blockchain analytics firm.

There are other tokens – worth several thousand dollars, which are still seized by the hacker. However, it is unclear whether these are part of the stolen assets.

The Poly Network hack came on Tuesday when the blockchain site said hackers had exploited a vulnerability in its system and taken thousands of digital tokens such as Ether. In a letter posted on Twitter, the company called on the thieves to “connect and return the hacked assets.”

The anonymous hacker claims that he committed the theft for fun and to encourage the cryptocurrency exchange company Poly Networks to improve its security.
