The bust of the poet Miklós Radnóti was toppled in Győr, the Győr-Szol utility company announced. The police are looking for the perpetrator or perpetrators.
“Our colleagues were saddened to see that the bust depicting Miklós Radnóti standing in front of the Zrínyi hospital building, on the Attila Szigethy út side, was toppled” – can be read on the Facebook page of the Győr-Szol utility company.
They added that
the incident was reported to the police, they are looking for the perpetrator, and their colleagues are taking care of restoring the statue.
Miklós Radnóti (1909–1944) is an outstanding representative of modern Hungarian lyric poetry, one of the most important authors of the magazine Nyugat.
Due to his Jewish origin, he was forced into labor during the Second World War, as a result of which he lost his life when his group was forced to march towards Germany in the fall of 1944.
