The concerts will take place in Cardiff on July 4-5, in Manchester on July 11-12 and 19-20, in London at Wembley Stadium on 25-26 July and 2-3 August, in Edinburgh on 8 and 9 August, and in Dublin on 16 August and 17 August. Tickets for the concerts go on sale on August 31, 2024.
A press release on the band’s website says Oasis will also embark on a world tour in 2025. Its dates have yet to be announced.
Here is the statement submitted by the Oasis members themselves regarding the band’s reunion:
The guns fell silent.
The stars have aligned.
The long wait is over.
Come take a look.
This will not be televised.
Oasis was founded in 1991 in Manchester. Among the original musicians were singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul Arthurs, bassist Paul McKeegan and drummer Tony McCarroll. A little later, Liam invited his older brother Noel Gallagher into the group, who soon became the main songwriter and informal leader of Oasis.
In 1994, the band released their debut album, Definitely Maybe, on the independent label Creation Records, which became the fastest selling debut album in British history. It has sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide. In 1995, Oasis recorded an even more successful second album, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”. The album became one of the best-selling albums in pop music history, selling 22 million copies worldwide, and made Oasis the most successful Britpop group. During their career, the band released seven studio albums, each of which appeared at number one in the UK charts. A compilation of Oasis hits, released in 2010 after the band split, also reached the top of the UK chart.
Liam and Noel Gallagher have been constantly clashing and fighting each other throughout their history, which was covered in detail by the British press. On 28 August 2009, after another backstage altercation between the brothers, Oasis canceled their appearance at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris at the last minute. Noel Gallagher has since released the following statement on his website: “It is with some sadness and great relief that I tell you that I am leaving Oasis today. People will write and say what they want, but I can’t work with Liam another day.”
It is believed that since then the Gallagher brothers have not communicated with each other for 15 years. Liam Gallagher formed the band Beady Eye. She released two albums and broke up in 2014, after which the younger Gallagher began a solo career, recording four studio discs. The last of them, a collaboration with The Stone Roses guitarist John Squire, was released in March 2024. Noel Gallagher formed the band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in 2010, which has currently released four studio albums. Since the collapse of Oasis, Liam Gallagher has attacked his brother again through the media or social networks, and he also proposed to revive the group – but until recently he did not receive any answers.
A source for British tabloid The Sun said the Gallagher brothers recently exchanged a series of phone calls to discuss a reunion that would see them make £400 million. “Noel and Liam will never be the best of friends, but they want Oasis back for the fans. They are not getting any younger, and they are in high demand. They decided it was now or never. Noel resisted for a long time, but finally gave in and agreed to return. They know this reunion will go down in music history.” said publication interlocutor.
According to the source, only the Gallagher brothers from the original Oasis lineup will take part in the performances. Noel requested that he and his brother be joined by members of his band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds during the tour.
