Emphasizing the role and contribution of the University of Sharjah in embodying the community partnership between academic and security institutions in preventing drug addiction, the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah, in partnership with the Sharjah Police General Command, the Academy of Police Sciences in Sharjah, the University of Sharjah branch in Al Dhaid, the University of Kalba, and my college, organized Law and Islamic Studies at the University of Sharjah, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Week activities under the slogan: “Protecting our society: a shared responsibility.”

This week aims to enhance the cognitive, social and health awareness of university students and the local community about the dangers of drug abuse and addiction, and to consolidate trends and values ​​that contribute to reducing rates of drug and psychotropic substance abuse, in addition to changing the societal culture around the disease of addiction, and raising awareness of mechanisms for providing medical and family support. And societal to ensure the sustainability of recovery in society, in addition to presenting examples of the efforts made by security institutions in implementing awareness programs, with the participation of an elite group of academics and workers within its activities in the fields of drug control and rehabilitation of addiction patients through the presentation of research working papers that discuss many topics during the conference sessions. Which lasts for four days.

During the opening session of this week, Professor Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, welcomed all participants and attendees on behalf of the President of the University, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, stressing that the university’s responsibility, as a leading scientific academic institution, is to organize events and activities that help build families. And a safe society through the exchange of various solutions, expertise and experiences, indicating that this week comes to exchange realistic research and scientific experiences in the fields of combating, rehabilitating and preventing drugs and addiction to them, which has become a threat to the security of societies of different cultures and different levels of development in them, in addition to the moral and social values ​​and controls that regulate them. The behavior of individuals and groups.

For his part, Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, during his opening speech, stressed the progress of the United Arab Emirates at all levels and fields, especially at the scientific and cultural levels, stressing that cooperation between the police and the University of Sharjah is a living example of the integration of joint efforts between government and educational institutions. In the emirate and in the country, and because the university is distinguished in providing higher education and knowledge in the region, while Sharjah Police represents a fundamental pillar in maintaining security and stability in society.

Dr. Nader Al-Bizri, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, added that the college is working to activate community partnerships with various local institutions to exchange theoretical academic expertise and scientific applied experiments in order to put forward recommendations and strategies to extract sustainable solutions to combat the drug scourge.
