NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg considered that “the conflict in Ukraine is going through a critical moment now, and Kiev needs a significant increase in support, especially military,” as he put it.
“This is a turning point in the war, and there is a need for a significant increase in support for Ukraine,” Stoltenberg told Reuters, calling for increased military support for Kiev.
He added: “If we want to reach a negotiated peace settlement tomorrow, we need to provide weapons today.”
And the Washington Post published a report revealing that Kyiv forces consume within two days a quantity of 155 mm shells, which requires a full month to produce.
German Chancellor: “NATO” wants to avoid direct confrontation with Russia
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz confirmed that NATO wants to avoid direct confrontation with Russia, and that his country is among the leading countries in supporting Ukraine, indicating that Germany will continue this approach.
Schultz’s remarks came in response to a question during the “Davos” economic forum, about the reasons for Berlin’s reluctance to provide Ukraine with “Leopard 2” tanks.
Schultz stressed that Germany does not want to take unilateral steps, considering that all decisions are taken in coordination with allies, especially Washington, which “plays an important role in that.”
He added, “We will continue this as long as necessary, and in this context, we would like to assure that the Ukrainians can count on us.”
