The Gujarat High Court has set aside an order by the Central Information Commission (CIC) directing the Delhi University to disclose details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree. The court imposed a fine of INR 25,000 ($346) on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his “unwarranted” statements against the Prime Minister during his campaign in Punjab in 2016. Kejriwal had alleged that the Prime Minister’s degree was fake, leading to the CIC’s order for the Delhi University to make the details public. However, the court ruled that the details were not necessary to be disclosed and held Kejriwal responsible for “wasting precious judicial time of the court”. Kejriwal has stated that he will appeal against the order.
