The guests of honor at the Váci Civic Evening in January were the signatories of a public statement strongly critical of the city administration.

On January 25th, again with the participation of an extremely large number of interested people, the Piarist Viewing Center once again hosted the Váci Civic Evening, and this time the protagonists were public figures who had previously declared by signing a joint statement that a change was needed in the city administration, because their vision according to vaconline.hu, the current direction has already been proven to be a dead end.

Fédra Fabián after the host’s introduction, this time editor-reporter Tímea Gerzsenyi-Raczkó asked the three statement-signers who appeared from among the invited (Dr. János Bóth, former member of parliament, former mayor finally canceled his participation due to illness) primarily about what motivated them to take a joint position.

Zsolt Imre, head of the Váci Civic Forum, was the first to explain his position.
– “The declaration was signed by public figures from the left and the right who are not currently participating as decision-makers in city politics, but we all experience that the current public mood in the city is over-politicized to an unprecedented degree, not over-politicized, but over-politicized. This in no way makes it possible to discuss professional matters here. From 1998, I was a member of the board headed by László Lábai stood as mayor, but at the same time there was a right-wing majority in that body, so we were forced to dialogue with each other, and the city functioned. Now we see and feel that the left has won over itself, we experience that it is abusing its position, and in an absolutely over-politicized way, constructive communication between the two sides is practically impossible, even though it would be very important, especially if we dream of a small Austrian town, peaceful and in a calm mood. I think that the image of this small town with a peaceful, calm atmosphere must have been lost in the fog. The current city administration, the mayoress, puts a heavy burden on the city, this must definitely change in the future,” said the head of the Váci Civic Forum.

Tamás Vásárhelyi, the president of the Közön a Várossért Egyesület, mentioned as an introduction: in 2019, he ran as an independent for the mayor’s office in order to contribute to making the city more livable, to making it good and better to do business and live here.

– “I signed the statement because I agree that the city’s management is not in the right direction at the moment, Vác has no real owner. However, the features of the settlement are very good, great things could be created here. As a club manager myself, I also feel that sport does not receive enough support, although I would add that I have never applied for support, we try to resolve our operation and development on our own, yet somehow it seems as if the association is a thorn in the side of the city administration. But in addition to sports, the city could be run better in every aspect,” said the association president.

Lawyer István Néveri, who also entered the ring as an independent in the last election, began by saying that, in his view, you can get ahead in the life of such a small town if you look for common points and not those that divide you.

– “From the period after the term marked by the name of mayor Ferenc Bartos, observing the events more from the outside, I constantly saw countless mistakes, and I was always convinced that we could move forward with a more cultured and constructive attitude. I never necessarily approached this question from a political point of view. Although Vác is a bigger city than for a mayor or even a representative, the voters should decide only on the basis of personal sympathy and experience. . It is clear to see that the lack of this has particularly peaked in the municipality in the last four and a half years, which must definitely be changed,” said the lawyer who joined the signatories of the statement.

Endnote: Several members of the left-liberal decision-making majority of the municipality appeared at the public discussion, and they joined the city management without being asked, but by quietly retreating (let’s say: Ilona Matkovich, who turned from a liberal journalist into a rainbow dictator pulled on a short leash) was also represented by local television.
They were obviously surprised to find that the vast majority of the residents who showed up strongly agree that in 2024 it will be time for a serious change in the Vác city administration.
