With dozens of people in striking costumes, the race was held this Sunday, December 31, 2023 San Silvestre 2023 in Guatemala City, which had a 10-kilometer route that saw the triumph of chapines José Carlos González and Viviana Aroche.

With smiles, with good wishes and above all with the objective of spending a moment of happiness to say goodbye to 2023, entire families were part of this colorful route of the San Silvestre race that had a 10-kilometer route between the Doroteo Guamuch stadium Flores, Avenida Reforma, El Obelisco and Avenida Las Américas, among other landmarks.

The Egyptian princess
Zulma Esmeralda Romero is a competitor who has been in this type of events for more than 30 years. “I dressed as a golden Egyptian princess so that people and children can see the fantasy costumes that participate in this San Silvestre race,†she said when interviewed.

The member of the Run MuniGuate team noted: “I want to start 2024 with a lot of health, blessings and friends.”
Silvia Alaya
For her part, Silvia Alaya arrived very early near the Doroteo Guamuch Flores National Stadium with her TinkerBell costume and pointed out that she has been part of the San Silvestre race for 10 years.
“We come with all the attitude because it is the last race of the year, we closed the 10 kilometers with a flourish,†commented the runners. He added: “I have been participating consecutively for 10 years, with the exception of the pandemic years (COVID-19). Last year we returned, post-pandemic it would be the second consecutive year.
Finally, Alaya wished: “We ask for peace, a change of government with great tranquility and stability in every sense for the country and all the inhabitants.”

Among the participants, a man dressed as Superman stood out. His name was Luis Navarro who, when interviewed by Omar SolÃs from Emisoras Unidas, said: “I am Costa Rican and I came to run the San Silvestre. It is a country that I love very much. The people are very friendly.”
“My expectation is to finish, and I want to run a marathon or 21 kilometers outside of Costa Rica,†he acknowledged.
