“The Guardian Faces Backlash Over Controversial Caricature of Former BBC Chairman Richard Sharp”

The British quality newspaper has found itself in a storm in the waves following the resignation of the controversial BBC chairman Richard Sharp.

The day after Sharp’s departure on Friday, he was photographed in The Guardian with distorted features, carrying a hand puppet representing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whom he once mentored.

After protests from Jewish organizations, which compared it to how Jews used to be portrayed in Nazi propaganda, The Guardian is now backing down, according to BBC.

“The caricature violates courage our editorial guidelines and we have decided to remove it from our website,” the editorial board wrote in a statement, in which it also apologized to Sharp, the Jewish community and anyone offended.

Richard Sharp, who is Jewish, was forced to resign after just over a year in the post after an investigation concluded that he had been abusive when he did not account for his financial dealings with then Prime Minister Boris Johnson before he was given the job.
