The Finance Police of Messina found 25 people who had been illegally receiving citizenship income for over a year, since 14 of them had been convicted of mafia crimes in the last ten years and the other 11 belonged to the same families.
The people in question have deceived the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) for about 330 thousand euros and the judge for the preliminary investigations has signed a preventive seizure against them for an equivalent sum at the request of the prosecutor.
According to the requirements indicated by the government, people who apply for citizenship income cannot be subjected to precautionary measures or have had final sentences in the last 10 years for certain types of crime, including mafia-type association, terrorism, kidnapping, political-mafia electoral exchange, massacre and aggravated fraud for obtaining public funds.
