Admittedly: “Birds of Prey” is better than its predecessor “Suicide Squad”. But this statement shows more how unsuccessful “Suicide Squad” really is. Because “Birds of Prey” is by no means a good film. Margot Robbie (30) plays comic busker Harley Quinn once again with a lot of bite, but otherwise practically everything about the blockbuster is yawning. The action scenes lack tension, the slogans lack humor and the plot lacks the common thread. “Birds of Prey” is not an absolute catastrophe, but neither is it a worthy superhero film.
Scooby-Doo deserves a good remake. The animated film series, which became the flagship of the American Hanna Barbera Studios in 1969, is also cult in this country. “Scoob!”, The first animated film about the fearful dog, can by no means tie in with the glorious days of cartoon. Instead of relying on classic detective action, the producers preferred to steal currently popular film motifs. The result is a soulless attempt to lure Scooby Doo fans big and small to the cinema. There is no artistic claim here.

3. Dolittle
To explain why “Dolittle” has to be on a list of the worst films of the year, one has to anticipate the film’s grand finale. So if you really want to see for yourself what’s going on in the bizarre children’s film, don’t read any further now. For everyone else: At the end of “Dolittle”, the eponymous doctor sticks his arm (and a leek) into the rectum of a dragon and proudly pulls out a bagpipe. Yes, you read that right: Superstar Robert Downey Jr. (55) sticks his arm into the rectum of a dragon to free a bagpipe from it. Enough said.

2. The Grudge
The second worst film of 2020 was released seven days after New Year’s Eve. Instead of vengeful ghosts, “The Grudge” makes you shudder at how bad the second remake of the Japanese cult film really is. So that you are spared, here is a short summary of all (!) Horror scenes in the film: A character hears something. When she looks there is nothing. The figure looks dismayed into space. Silence. Suddenly a zombie jumps out of the shadows accompanied by a loud noise. The figure screams. The viewer yawns. The chaotic cut, the dull dialogues and especially the nonsensical plot give the film the rest. You’d rather look at the original again.

1. 365 days
“365 days” was one of the big surprises of the year. Not because the erotic film is so successful. But because the flick was a huge success for Netflix – although practically everything about it invites you to switch off TV. Not only that the dialogues, the editing, the set design, the acting, the camera work, the soundtrack and the script are disastrous. With its nonsense called action, the alleged erotic thriller also plays down topics such as rape and domestic violence. “365 days” is a cheek – and therefore the worst film of the year.
