After a big boom last year and early last year, demand for computers began to ease, with the PC market slowing in the second quarter of 2021 – presents analysis by IDC and Gartner.
Of course, this does not mean that no one would want to buy a PC anymore, demand remains strong: more than 83 million such devices were purchased by users during the period, according to IDC. According to IDC, the global shortage of chips also played a major role in the development of the quarterly figures, and the lack of components for laptops pushed back production.
Most PCs were shipped by Lenovo (20 million), followed by HP (18.6 million) and third (14 million). In terms of growth, however, Apple, Acer and Asus performed above the market average as their assets were available in larger quantities.
According to IDC, the picture for the expected future is still quite mixed in the short term: stock shortages were less common in the consumer segment and more visible in the corporate area. Private users mostly jumped on PCs during the pandemic, so this part of the market became saturated.
