The mass migration of Russian citizens to Thailand due to Putin’s aggression against Ukraine is starting to annoy local residents more and more.
Thailand’s most famous resort, Phuket, is seeing a massive influx of Russians this year as they flee the aftermath of the war unleashed in Ukraine by Putin.
This is reported Al Jazeera.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that the local authorities have made rather loyal conditions for a long-term stay in Thailand for citizens of the aggressor country. Men here can hide from Putin’s mobilization, and women with children can wait out the disturbing moments associated with cases of “bavovna” that periodically occur in Russia.
This year alone, about 400 thousand Russians entered Phuket, twice as many as before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The lion’s share of them is in no hurry to return home, as there are no prospects for the end of the war yet.
Such Russian occupation causes extreme dissatisfaction of local residents. Visiting men, for example, take jobs in transportation, offering lower rates. Young Russian-speaking women are pushing taeks even out of their traditional sphere of providing sex services.
Richer refugees from the Russian Federation with long-term visas open a business and buy houses on the island. And although property prices in Phuket have risen because of this, it has made life difficult for local small realtors and short-term tenants – it has become more difficult to make money.
Enterprises also began to appear on the island en masse, hiring only Russian-speaking employees, often illegal immigrants from the countries of the former USSR. The crime rate is on the rise. Law enforcement agencies have not yet responded strongly to such violations of local laws. Only a few arrests were made, and then only after persistent complaints from disgruntled Thais who had not previously encountered such rampant crime.
The natives of Phuket say that the Russians have already captured most of the tourism business and their expansion continues – more and more new large investors with capital of dubious origin come from the Russian Federation, who buy up expensive yachts and villas. Social networks are already calling for protests against the settlement of unwanted guests. The authorities, counting on profit, hope to soften the discontent of the population, stating that “not all Russian criminals”, but the majority of those who have flown to Phuket, are simply looking for a safe place.
Earlier we reported that drunk tourists from Russia made a big fight in Montenegro.
The Russians also complained about beating by guards in one of the hotels in Turkey. After the citizens of the Russian Federation were paid 210 euros, they declared that the conflict was over.
