The growing problem of the illegal retransmission of audiovisual content on different platforms on the internet was addressed in the forum Intellectual Property Rights on Digital Platformsan event in which specialists on this topic participated.
“It is important to protect the content that is published, understanding the value it represents for sectors such as the audiovisual industry, entertainment, programming and development; telecommunications, social networks, media, content generators, and the general public”, Waleska Sterkel de Ortiz, executive director of the Guatemalan-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), indicated during the activity.
Luis Mauricio Torres, coordinator of the Latin American Telecommunications Studies Center, explained that, in the region, approximately half of the audiovisual content that is reproduced occurs on pirate sites.
“Countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Guatemala have a higher proportion of pollution and illegal demand than the average for the region.“Torres added.
He webinar The objective was to raise awareness among authorities, media, opinion leaders and citizens in general about the importance of protecting audiovisual content on different digital platforms.
