Since launching the world’s first OLED TV in 2013, LG Electronics has maintained its overwhelming No. 1 position in the global TV market for 10 consecutive years. Following the TV, OLED gaming monitors have also begun to pioneer the market.
According to the industry on the 11th, the future global TV market is expected to grow centered on OLED TVs. In high-priced products over $2,000 (about 2.6 million won), there is a high possibility that the proportion of OLED TV sales will soar from 39.1% in 2021 to 45.6% this year.
In major markets such as Europe and North America, the mainstream of the TV market is already shifting to OLED. Last year, among premium TVs, OLED accounted for 51% in Western Europe and 52.8% in North America, exceeding the majority. In particular, in Western Europe, OLED share is expected to grow rapidly, increasing to 64.3% this year and 76.4% in 2025.
LG Electronics plans to expand its premium product lineup by launching a new LG OLED Evo 97-type within this year. Previously, LG Electronics introduced the new LG OLED Evo, which consists of 83, 77, 65, and 55 types, in March.
In announcing the results for the first quarter of this year, LG Electronics said, “We will strengthen product competitiveness with the 2023 LG OLED Evo, and speed up targeting premium demand with a lifestyle TV that goes beyond the realm of TV and evolves into an interior object.”
In addition, LG Electronics released a 48-inch monitor with an OLED display for the first time among LG UltraGear gaming monitors in June of last year, followed by two types of OLED gaming monitors (45 and 27-inch) at the end of last year, continuing the OLED gaming monitor lineup. are expanding The size of the gaming PC and monitor market is expected to grow by 7.4% annually from $43 billion (approximately KRW 55.4055 trillion) in 2020 to more than $60 billion (approximately KRW 77.34 trillion) in 2025.
In addition, Samsung Electronics’ OLED TV with LG Display’s panel will be released. Starting with LG Electronics, LG Display is expanding its OLED TV market by supplying OLED panels to more than 20 global brands in Europe, North America, Japan, and China.
An industry insider said, “LG Display, which continues to suffer losses, is expected to improve its profitability through an alliance with Samsung Electronics.”
