About 63% of U.S. adults sleep fewer than the seven to nine hours recommended by professionals per night, according to the National Sleep Foundation’s Sleep Health Index. At the same time, more people are becoming aware of the importance of sleep.

Among the studies Natella cited in his research were those that covered more than 15,000 Chinese adults aged 65 and older, including 2,794 people aged 100 or older. It found that people over the age of 100 were 70% more likely to get good sleep than the younger group after adjusting for social status, education, and health conditions.
Health conditions can also affect the ability to get a good night’s rest, such as insomnia and sleep apnea.
As many as 1 in 2 American adults will experience short-term insomnia at some point in their lives, while 1 in 10 may have long-term insomnia, according to the CDC.
