The Growing Demand for Light Content: A Break from Heavy Agendas

— “Bodyguards” is a fairly light series. And, apparently, the audience likes this lightness. Do you think the demand for such content is growing now? How can this be explained? Do people need a break from a heavy agenda?

M. Sh.: In recent years, a trend has emerged: they are releasing TV series in which there is not a single positive character. At some point you realize that you have no one to “root for” there. There is no element of empathy, you are just watching the “spiders in the jar.” We initially intended this series to be kind and light, and we are glad that this form received a wide response from the viewer. It was valuable for us.

— The series has 16 episodes. Short sitcoms also seem to be a new trend. Does the viewer no longer want to watch 10 seasons of 20 episodes, as was the case before?

A.I.: Now everyone is faced with the problem of speed. The viewer most often does not have time to immerse himself in something thoroughly, so the entire Internet is saturated with materials from the category “10 facts about Peter I”, “8 facts about the North Pole”. People want information quickly and concisely. This is probably the case in serial history. Everyone is planning to quickly dive into something and quickly emerge. Nowadays there is so much exciting content that it becomes very difficult to retain the viewer for a long time.
