Sudden Lights’ self-penned music is dominated by a pop-rock style, supplemented with a slightly alternative vibe. Since its founding, the group has released three albums – “Suburbs” (2017), “Vislabāk ir tur kur manis nav” (2019) and “Miljards vasaru” (2022). The group spent the year 2022 in an active concert life – performed at the biggest Latvian festivals and went on a concert tour. New musical collaborations with the rapper Zeļgi and the mysterious ZeBreni have also started.
“Victory in “Supernova” brings a lot of joy for the high recognition, but at the same time also a great responsibility. We will do everything in our power to represent Latvia honorably on the big Eurovision stage,” said the band members.
In the final of the selection organized by Latvian Television (LTV), ten participants competed for the opportunity to represent Latvia at the 67th international Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
In the “Supernova” final, Patriša took 2nd place, the group “24. Avenue”, 4. – Markus Riva, 5. – Avéi, 6. – Raum, 7. – Toms Kalderauskis, 8. – Alice Haijima, 9. – Artūrs Hatti, 10. – Louise.
The winner was determined by the audience vote (50%) and the jury (50%).
The jury selected by LTV included representatives of the Latvian music industry, events and television, as well as foreign professionals. Due to security reasons, LTV will reveal the names of the jury representatives only after the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
The Eurovision semi-finals will take place on May 9 and 11, and the final on May 13.
In the Eurovision final in 2022, Ukrainian representatives “Kalush Orchestra” won with the song “Стефания” (“Stefania”), however, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) decided to entrust the organization of the 2023 contest on behalf of Ukraine to Great Britain.
This will be the ninth time that Great Britain has hosted the final of the competition. The last time was in 1998 in Birmingham.
