The Greensboro Urban Loop will be opening soon

The final section of the Greensboro Urban Loop, also known as Interstate 840, is expected to be completed in January and will be a faster route for drivers traveling north and east of the city.

The decades-old collar connecting Interstates 73, 40 and 85 to US 421, US 220 and US 29, from North Elm Street and scheduled for completion this spring, is ahead of schedule.

MOBILITY

The road is expected to be ready for traffic from January 20, depending on weather conditions and temperatures and the completion of details such as stripping, signage and the installation of protective grates.

When the work is completed, access to Piedmont Triad International Airport and the passage to Winston-Salem, High Point or even Charlotte will be easier for another large part of the population; likewise, the trip from the Lake Jeanette area to the triangle around Raleigh will be easier, much shorter, and without traffic lights.

This 4-lane section crosses north of Church Street, but will have only one interchange at Yanceyville Street. The final stretch should accommodate an average daily traffic of around 19,000 vehicles.
