2021 is being a great year for Federico Delbonis, beat in Roma to the canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in two sets, and he got for the first time among the 8 best of a Masters 1000, this being one of the great chapters of his career. With 14 wins on dust, he is the second tennis player with the most victories on that surface so far this 2021, only surpassed by the Spanish Albert Ramos Viñolas.
It is not the first time that the man in Azul leaves Argentine tennis at the top, in his memory book he stores some milestones that he will never forget:
-
In 2013 he defeated Swiss Roger Federer in the ATP 500 semi-final in Hamburg, where he later fell to Fabio Fognini in the final.
-
March 2014 was a great month for the Argentine, first he achieved his first ATP title in São Paulo after beating Paolo Lorenzi, and days later he gave the Argentine team the fifth point to define the Davis Cup series against Brazil.
-
In 2015, he beat Stan Wawrinka (Top 5 at the time) in the ATP Geneva quarterfinals.
-
The great feat of Delbonis and the entire modern generation of Argentine tennis players would arrive in 2016: the much-desired Davis Cup. Delbo began the final series against Croatia in Zagreb with a loss to Martin Cilic, but the rematch would come in the fifth and final point that put him through with Ivo Karlovic, whom he dispatched in 3 straight sets. Finally, the Azuleño, together with Del Potro and Mayer, would bring the much desired and deserved ¨Silver Salad¨ to the country.
