The great migration of tweeters to the Bluesky social network: “I uninstalled Twitter is the new ‘I ran in front of the grays'”

First it was the British newspaper The Guardianwhich this Wednesday announced that it will stop publishing on the network X in the face of the proliferation of toxic content and how its owner Elon Musk He has used it in the US election campaign. This Thursday it was the Spanish newspaper The Vanguard the one who made a similar announcement a day after it became known that Musk will lead the new US “Department of Government Efficiency.”

Certainly, the social network formerly known as Twitter It has suffered a progressive deterioration, first technically with the dismissal of a large part of its staff and later in use and content. To begin with, Musk destroyed the verification system and changed it for a monstrosity based on a payment system. It also ended the blocking function for other users and modified the algorithms in the “for you” tab, which many denounce has now become a gateway to hoaxes and hate. Not to mention the annoying and gloomy black background, among other strange ideas.

Elon Musk is going to manage the US government as Twitter has managed: everyone is out of work, nothing works and it will lose 90% of its value.

However, the number of accounts from institutions, public services, illustrious figures, politicians, companies or media have continued to maintain it. But that may be starting to change. Precisely in recent days one of the alternative networks, Bluesky, is experiencing great growth. This same week The New York Times explained that a wave of new users had joined this decentralized social network that is beginning to compete with X. According to this medium, citing a company spokesperson, one million users have joined since the elections.

The Great Migration to Bluesky

Also in Spain in recent times there has been a progressive migration of tweeters to the butterfly network, but this Thursday things have exploded with the latest news and many profiles have been joining other classic tweeters who have already been there since long ago when it could only be accessed by invitation, looking for what Twitter once was and fleeing from hate while waiting for the algorithms and the blocking system to stop them here.

Now you can see more familiar faces, and also the classic irony and good nature of the original Twitter. This Thursday the conversation there has revolved around the new additions.

I uninstalled Twitter and signed up for BlueSky, the new “I ran in front of the grays.”

I will tell my grandchildren that my fight against fascism consisted of giving me direct access to Bluesky where I previously had Twitter.

The flood of people is causing Bluesky to have performance issues.

Let’s see, please, stand in line and one by one block the doors of this. 🤣

There has even begun to be debated whether posts should continue to be called tweets, now that Musk abandoned the original nomenclature, or something else.

I don’t know to what extent the heated debate that exists in the Anglo-Saxon over whether to call posts “skeets” (and what is the meaning of this word that scandalizes the most puritans) has transcended the Bluesky homeland.

I would follow them, I would call them tweets as has been done all my life.

These are some of the comments that are already moving on Bluesky.

Of course Twitter has changed.

Before, we were the majority who did the subnormal.

Now the majority are subnormal.

— Serthand (@serthand.bsky.social) November 14, 2024, 1:34 p.m.

Twitter: 76,000 followers, 70 likes.

Bluesky: 2,700 followers, 46 likes.

This is much more satisfying.

You come to remove our likes

Basic advice for new to Bluesky.

Look for an account that you really like or that you like their content, go to their profile, click on the accounts they follow (the tab that says Following) and there you will have accounts that will surely interest you.

The more accounts you follow, the better experience you will have.

Now that the media is coming, let’s try to use news and politics to move forward.
At the first idiot, I block. Disrespect, blocking.
It’s not that difficult, we already know how.
And politics for me is essential, I already feel it :S

— Certainties (@certezas.bsky.social) November 14, 2024, 9:32

I try again. A lot of people are coming to Bluesky from Twitter and we are a little lost.

Can you recommend any interesting accounts to start following?

— Juan Ceñal (@ordago13.bsky.social) November 14, 2024, 9:40

If the important media leaves Twitter, it is the death of that social network. At least the death of the relevance it has.

More than anything because Twitter’s function today is not a social network but an information network. If the main sources leave, its main base is broken.

—Ugo Sin Hache (@ugosinhache.bsky.social) November 14, 2024, 9:42

It would be nice if in the end Twitter were only Indian bots and fascists insulting each other.

— ClapForMarta 💭 (@clapformarta.bsky.social) November 10, 2024, 12:17

Why are so many users coming at once? Have they put Mazón in charge of Twitter or something like that?

— LarrySion (@larrysion.bsky.social) November 14, 2024, 1:56 p.m.

Time will tell if the Twitter community will move more and more to this new social network to the detriment of Musk’s, if both will coexist or if other alternatives will come into play such as Threads, from Meta, or Mastodon, another that has already caused people to talk. in the past.
