Is there a new serial hit announced? As the “Hollywood Reporter” reports, another adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” is being planned. Scriptwriter Michael Hirst and producer Michael London want to bring the iconic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald to series production. The project is being developed under the aegis of A + E Studios and ITV Studios. With the claim of a reinterpretation, the series is set to take place in the black community of New York in the 1920s and delve deep into the musical subculture. The series will be supported by Blake Hazard, the great-granddaughter of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, it is said.
Michael Hirst, who has already written for successful productions such as “The Tudors” and “Vikings”, said of his new role: “Today, when America wants to reinvent itself again, is the perfect moment to look at this timeless story with new eyes and explore their famous and iconic characters through the modern lens of gender, race and sexual orientation. ”Hazard added,“ I have long dreamed of a more diverse, inclusive version of Gatsby that better reflected the America we live in . “
“The Great Gatsby” has been filmed several times. Most recently, Leonardo DiCaprio took on the lead role of Jay Gatsby in the film by director Baz Luhrmann in 2013. The drama won awards at the 2014 Academy Awards in the categories of “Best Set Design” and “Best Costume Design”. Hollywood veteran Robert Redford also slipped into the iconic role in 1974, when Francis Ford Coppola wrote the script.
