The great dancer Marinel Stefanescu has died

Marinel Stefanescu, internationally renowned dancer and choreographer, died on December 24. The news on his page Facebookthanks to a post from the family: “The curtain fell on December 24th”.

With this sentence published on his Facebook page on Christmas Eve, the family announced the death in Reggio Emilia of Marinel Stefanescu, internationally renowned dancer and choreographer.

Born in Romania, a Bucharest, the city in which he was appointed principal dancer at the Opera after winning the gold medal at the international dance competition in Varna. In 1969 he received the award for best performance at the first international competition ballet in Moscow.

In the 1975 hung up his shoes after a brilliant career on stages all over the world and then dedicated himself to choreography. And in 1977 together with the wife Liliana Cosia former dancer and artistic director who she met in Madrid during a gala evening for the Spanish royal family, settled in Reggio Emilia; here they founded theClassical Ballet Association still an important dance reality, a discipline of which Stefanescu is a symbol of excellence in the city of the Tricolore.

Stefanescu was the grandson of Gabriel Popescu, principal dancer of the Bucharest Opera Ballet. He had studied and perfected his skills at the Bolshoi Theater and then in St. Petersburg with master Pushkin.

Tomorrow morning (December 27), the day he would have turned 77, at 10 am funerals in his home in Mancasale di Reggio Emilia, then the body will be buried in the Villa Sesso cemetery where he will rest.
