The great challenge of “Pichi”: he will do all the Galician Caminos de Santiago in favor of Cáritas de O Grove

At the end of 2014, some friends changed his life by engaging him in the sport of cycling. Since then, a cycling challenge has been marked every year.

This 2021 he intended to make a pilgrimage from Rome to Santiago, being the Holy Year, but the coronavirus restrictions prevent carrying out such an ambitious project. For this reason, it has organized a “plan B”, which starts on Sunday of next week.

Juan Prieto is going to travel the seven roads to Santiago in its Galician part, among which they total about 1,600 kilometers. Overall, it is a similar distance to that between Vilagarcía and Paris. He will walk the paths one after the other, with which the challenge will once again test his physical and mental resistance.

But also, this initiative of the grovense has a solidarity aspect, since it has opened the thread “Los 7 roads” on the web page “migranodearena.org”, dedicated to solidarity “crowdfunding” projects. In it, you will collect donations in favor of Cáritas de O Grove. It is the first time that “Pichi” has accompanied his sporting experience with a social action, and he does so due to the serious economic crisis caused by COVID.

Juan Francisco Prieto Cacabelos He has been challenging the limits of body and mind for years. He has completed routes as demanding as the Senda del Duero or called Ruta 7 de la Patagonia, in the south of the American continent. He also did the Camino de Santiago from Geneva (Switzerland).

But he became even more famous last summer, when He made a complete tour of the Iberian Peninsula by bicycle, which meant him pedaling more than 4,000 kilometers in just over a month. He did it in the middle of the pandemic, which made the feat even more difficult.

He made an ultra-endurance trip in Argentina and pedaled from Switzerland to Santiago

At that time, back in O Grove, he confessed that his next goal would be to get to Santiago from Rome, another of the spiritual capitals of Catholicism. He intended to do it this 2021, as it was the Holy Year.

The COVID has prevented the adventure, but “Pichi” refused to let the virus water the Xacobeo. For this reason, what he will do is travel the Galician sections of the seven land roads: they are French, Portuguese, English, Northern, Primitive, Sanabrés and Winter. The challenge starts next week’s Sunday, April 11.

Your goal is to donate at least 3,000 euros to Cáritas, and the page will display in real time the money that Internet users donate to the cause.
